Thriving Thursday! Our show is tomorrow! We can barely wait!! Here's a recap of our dayWe welcomed campers into their small groups while beginning a stealthy action game called Sneaky Coseeki. When we were ready to join each other as a big group, we hopped up on stage to dance some of our favorites, like Tikki Room, Hamster Dance, and Wipeout! After the fun games and getting ourselves ready to jump into rehearsals, we began working with our director team to finish up the final moments of our show! We can't believe that we're done learning new things, and now we just get to practice for our audience tomorrow! We took a great lunch and relaxation break, taking time to recognize other people's awesomeness with PROPS. In the afternoon, we used calm or silent communication to arrange ourselves in different orders, such as age, grade, height, or birthday month. Campers had very thoughtful connections to share about how our communication activity connected to our showcase, and why calm communication can help us as a team of performers. Then, we played a few quick rounds of Joe (a game much like Duck Duck Grey Duck, but more creative!!), and got ready to jump back into rehearsals. We spent a lot of time running and rerunning songs and dances to figure out our solos and using the microphone. We ended the day with an amazing clean-up session before moving into our awards ceremony. Our award ceremony was fantastically fun, and then the showcase featured some singing, magical, and performing counselors. We can't believe tomorrow is our last day together. Practice tonight so that we can spend tomorrow feeling excited and confident!! AnnouncementsOur show is TOMORROW!! We will open our doors a little before 3:30. There are no tickets, but we will be accepting free will donations as you enter.
Campers must wear their blue camp T-shirt and black pants/capris if possible. No shorts please! Our shirts are running big and we want all our kiddos to look appropriately clothed :) Wild Water Wednesday! What a fun and wacky Wednesday we had together. It was Under the Sea day, and all our counselors and campers were in amazingly creative under water outfits! We saw fish, mermaids, crabs, sharks, and more! We love our fun campers here at summer camp!!! Here's a recap of our dayWelcome to Wacky Wednesday at Ashland Summer Camp! Campers came right in today to check in and get name tags with small groups instead of stopping at the door. That gave us a ton of time to play a fun Frogger game with our small groups! Then, we joined the large group on stage to play an acting game called What Are You Doing? We also warmed up our minds and bodies by learning a fun new dance to the song Wipe Out! It was a perfect game for our Under The Sea dress up day because it used surfing dance moves! Then, we were ready to jump into rehearsals. We dang and danced to Step In Time, and learned blocking for scene 3! Step In Time is a super fun and challenging dance. Campers should practice it at home until they could practically do it in their sleep! We enjoyed eating lunch with new kids, and then relaxing and reflecting during meditation and props. In the afternoon, we continued our dancing, singing, and acting rehearsals. We blocked scene 4, and danced and sang Under the Sea!! We are feeling totally on our way to a showcase on Friday!! At the end of our day, we had an award ceremony hosted by two funny counselors. We love celebrating campers for the special things they do! Finally, our counselor showcase featured some amazingly awesome talent. What a super day! Your energy and effort rocked. We are so excited to see you tomorrow! Important AnnouncementsPlease memorize those lines! We are excited to see confident speakers when we rehearse our showcase tomorrow!
Practice with the music tonight. We know songs and dances for Supercali-, Step in Time, Under the Sea, Part of Your World, and Fathoms Below!! Tomorrow we will work on She's in Love : ) Terrific Tuesday!A fabulous day at Ashland summer camp! Here's a recap of our dayHappy Tuesday! This morning, campers joined their small groups to play a creative getting to know you game called 2 Truth and A Lie. Then, we hopped up on stage for a morning warm up! We stretched our bodies and our minds to get ready for our day, and we learned the beginning of the Tikki Room dance! We also played a morning game, Alien Tiger Cow, which is a cool competitive matching game! Our first rehearsal sessions helped us learn to sing and dance Supercalifragilistiexpialidocious and Fathoms Below. (You can practice these at home with our music on the Music tab of this website!) After a delicious lunch, and restful break time, we came back together for Skillz with a Z! Today we practiced teamwork by untying the Human Knot we made with our hands clasped. We discussed the importance of teamwork in camp and during our showcase, and how we can be master team players! Then, we played a super round of a sneaky favorite game called Night Guard! In the afternoon, we jumped into our rehearsals again by learning the music and dancing to Part of Your World, and blocking a few scenes! Campers are already looking way fabulous! At the end of the day, we enjoyed an amazing fancy awards ceremony and a counselor showcase that featured a dancer, a singer, and a funny Deserted Island skit! We saw lots of hard work today. Keep up the good work, everyone! Important AnnouncementsCampers should begin memorizing their lines in scenes and songs tonight! The sooner we no longer need our papers, the better we can practice our performing!!
SCRIPTS MUST COME BACK TO CAMP! Do not leave these precious papers at home. We do not have any extras, so when you forget yours, then we have two sets of eyes on one small packets. It's not the easiest way to learn! Tomorrow is DRESS UP DAY! Dress with the theme UNDER THE SEA!!! We can't wait to see your amazingly fun outfits. Magnificent Monday! Fabulous First Day!What an amazing day! Our campers are talented, brave, and so much FUN! Please check this blog daily for important announcements, pictures, videos, and rehearsal information. Here's a recap of our dayThis morning, campers walked into our theater to join their small groups in the seats. We have small groups at different times throughout the day so that every single camper has a "home base" and a small family where they can always go! In the small groups, we played an animal name game, a creative getting to know you game that was perfect for the first day of camp! Then, we all came together on stage for morning warm ups. Our counselors led us in fun stretches and movement! Once we were all warmed up, we got ready to audition for our showcase parts. We have great news!! EVERYONE who wanted a line or solo singing part got one! We are thrilled to let every camper have their time to shine, individually, in a small group, or as a part of the big group. After auditions, we had lunch, and took a little time to rest and meditate. In the afternoon, campers learned about stage directions (like up stage, downs stage, stage left, and stage right!) during Skillz with a Z! Then, our afternoon game was a fun rhythm and rhyme game called Purse. Purse is a grat game to play at home, too! Ask your camper to teach you how to play. After our rest and play time, we jumped into rehearsals! We learned to sing and dance to Supercalifragilisticexpiaidocious! And yes, campers even SPELLED it. After singing and dancing, we read through our whole script! It was exciting to hear everyone read their line aloud for the first time. At the end of every day, we have an amazing tradition at Ashland called Awards Ceremony. Counselors take the time to recognize each and every camper (by the end of the week) for something special they did, or something they did to make someone else feel special. Everyone will get an award this week, we LOVE the awards! Finally, at the very end of the day, our counselors had a little showcase for us, including a song and a skit. Thanks counselors! GREAT first day, everyone! We are mega-excited to see you again tomorrow!! Important AnnouncementsWEDNESDAY IS UNDER THE SEA DRESS UP DAY! Then, the counselor showcase included a skit about the King's papers, a wonderful song performed by Lydia, and the counselors dancing the Legally Blonde dances.
